A niche market is the subset of the market on which a specific product is focused. ... It is also a small market segment. For example, sports channels like STAR Sports, ESPN, STAR Cricket, and Fox Sports target a niche of sports enthusiasts. Every product can be defined by its market niche.

Products and services which are readily available to and appealing to the general public, as opposed to being of interest only to a very specific subset of the public.

What is an independent product?


An independent film, independent movie, indie film or indie movie is a feature film that is produced outside of the major film studio system, in addition to being produced and distributed by independent entertainment agencies. Independent films are sometimes distinguishable by their content and style and the way in which the filmmakers' personal artistic vision is realized. Usually, but not always, independent films are made with considerably lower budgets than major studio movies.

Characteristics of mainstream products:
- Distribution; they are distributed in cinemas and theatres such as vue cinemas and unicorn theatre 
- Audience; youth audience
- Exhibition; the showing of a product that has been created in a public outing like a movie premiere  
- Marketing; posters ,billboards, sponsors and adverts

Characteristics of independent products:
- Distribution; limited distribution
- Audience ; stereotypical older audience
- Exhibition; average sized cinemas
- Marketing; tends to have star limited marketing


Characteristics of niche products:

- Distribution; film festival showing and online release 
- Audience; an older and more mature audience
- Marketing; newspaper
